Getting a ride in AMA Pro Road Racing was so coveted in the 2000s, that riders from around the world came here to show off their skills. Such was the case in the Daytona Championship Cup Series (CCS) races at Daytona International Speedway in March of 2005. This photo shows Venezuelan Gustavo Laya (No. 712) battling bar to bar with Irishman Brian McCormack (No. 100). This up-and-coming international duo were this close all weekend. Laya took victory over McCormack in the Amateur Middleweight Grand Prix race, while McCormack got the nod over Laya in Akrapovic GTU Amateur action. McCormack would go on to become Irish Superbike Champion in 2012. Sadly Laya passed away in 2015.
