Tigert Wins Superbike Predecessor Event

Daytona Superbike winner Bob Tigert. That’s right, Bob Tigert won the Daytona Superbike Production race in 1975 on his Yamaha RD350. The catch is Bob won the Lightweight class. In AMA Superbike’s early days, the AMA Production Class, as it was called then, featured three divisions, the Open, 750cc and Lightweight classes. Bob, picture here on Daytona’s front straight, won the Lightweight portion over Scott Clough and Henry Olynger, all three on Yamaha RDs. Incidentally, David Aldana won the Open class on a Kawasaki Z1 and Cook Neilson the 750cc Class on a Ducati. (Gary Van Voorhis photo)
