Talk about a picture that tells a story! This image from master lensman Jan Burgers shows most riders at England’s annual Race of the Year at Mallory Park interacting with adoring fans as they are transported around the track in the back of a trailer. Meanwhile check out Kenny Roberts who is using the occasion to get a close-up look at the track surface. During the race Roberts passed Giacomo Agostini, Barry Sheene and Phil Read in the course of two laps and quickly pulled away. Unfortunately, Roberts’ pace proved too fast, and his rain tire burned up on the almost completely dry track. Sheene went on to win the race.
